Asante Samuel at Lehigh

0 Comments | This entry was posted on August 1st, 2011 at 8:59 am

According to Geoff Mosher, Asante Samuel has come to Lehigh today.  He had been out on an unspecified excused absence.

Speculation has been rampant that Samuel will be traded. For his part, he says he wants to remain with the Eagles.

Having him around camp could make things a bit more interesting, for sure.

Quintin Mikell Is Gone

0 Comments | July 27th, 2011 at 7:18 am

A steady presence in the Eagles defense the last few years, Quintin Mikell has move on to (much) greener pastures, signing a $28 million contract with the St Louis Rams.

The Eagles will rely on rookie Jaiquawn Jarret, second year man Nate Allen, and any players acquired in free agency to man the safety positions.

Seahawks Get a QB, It’s Not Kolb

0 Comments | July 26th, 2011 at 4:24 pm

The latest buzz is that the Seahawks have come to an agreement with a quarterback but it’s not a deal with the Eagles for Kevin Kolb.  Since many believed them to be the second team in a contest with the Cardinals for Kolb, that begs the question of “what now?”

There could be a third team.  The Vikings, Panthers, Titans, and Browns - among others - all have question marks at the most important position.

Or, with the Seahawks moving on, the Kolb deal could be finalized with the Cardinals at any moment.  As tonight turns into tomorrow we should really know more.

No Kolb Trade Today

0 Comments | July 26th, 2011 at 12:54 pm

Domo says that he’s been told no announcement on a Kolb trade will come today.  This leads to the interesting question of whether the Eagles will ask him to report to camp tomorrow.  Awwwkward.

Reading between the lines: there’s more than just the Cardinals in on Kolb at this point.  Advantage, Eagles.

Kevin Kolb — Arizona Bound

0 Comments | July 25th, 2011 at 4:24 pm

Kevin Kolb, by all accounts, is headed to Glendale to play for the Arizona Cardinals.  The Eagles will receive as compensation cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (a cousin of Antonio Cromartie), plus a yet to be determined draft pick.  Some have it as high as a #2.

Cromartie has the tools to be an excellent cover corner, but also makes a lot of mental mistakes and has been criticized for his seeming unwillingness to tackle hard.

He’s an immediate upgrade of everyone the Eagles had pencilled in at RCB, opposite Asante Samuel.

Winston Justice Knee Surgery - 2011 In Jeopardy?

0 Comments | February 21st, 2011 at 12:43 pm

Update - Successful arthroscopic surgery for Justice.  No microfracture surgery needed.

A breaking story from Geoff Mosher today, Winston Justice is going to have knee surgery in Atlanta tomorrow.  This will be performed by James Andrews.

According to Mosher, the surgery is to repair damage caused by bone chips and remove the chips.  Additionally, the surgery may determine whether microfracture surgery is needed for Justice.  That procedure is one that professional athletes have an extremely difficult time getting back to their full form from.

More to come.

Vick, Akers Get Tagged

0 Comments | February 15th, 2011 at 9:33 am

According to several sources, the Eagles will offically notify the league that they are applying the franchise tag to Michael Vick today.  This is not a surprise.

Their have been strong indications that the Eagles would like to sign Vick to a new contract, but the lack of a CBA makes that impossible.  The framework of the deal may already be worked out, in fact, waiting on the CBA to be finished so any dependent details can be finally hashed out and the document made official.

What could be interesting is the declaration by the NFLPA that the franchise tag is irrelevant for 2011.  They argue it can not be applied for a season in which there is no agreement between the owners and players.

Whether that will affect any future financial arrangement between Vick and the Eagles — in whatever year professional football is next played — time will only tell.

The Eagles also placed the transition tag on David Akers, meaning they have the right to match any offer another team makes.

Gruden

All that needs to be said on the subject.

“Enough of the Gruden nonsense.  It’s not true. It’s not even a report.  It’s not even a wrong story.  It’s social media hysteria.  OK, carry on.”
