Eagles Trade Greg Lewis to Patriots

Bill Belichick has the reputation of grabbing players from other teams that have been effective against the Patriots over the years.  Now he might be taking this to the extreme.

The Eagles traded Greg Lewis to the Patriots today, but what they got in return has yet to be disclosed (editors note: perhaps some used CDs?)

Lewis has had some big games against the Patriots over the years (the Super Bowl, the AJ Feeley game in NE in 2007).  But he’s never been a successful featured player for the Eagles.

This helps the Eagles clear up a logjam at wide receiver.  One that Lewis wasn’t likely to make it out of anyway.

Latest Rumor: Eagles trading for Torry Holt?

Torry Holt

A rumor out of St. Louis has the Rams trading veteran Torry Holt to the Eagles for their underachieving wideout Reggie Brown and a draft pick.  That comes from an article on Inside St Louis written by former SI.com man Howard Blazer.

Holt received quite a bit of attention last year from Eagles fans when the team was thought to be searching for a trade partner for Lito Sheppard.  Presumably, Sheppard could still be involved in any trade with the Rams as well.

Holt will be 33 when the 2009 season starts.  Last year he played in 14 games, grabbing 65 receptions for 796 yards and only 3 touchdowns.  It was a disappointing year for both Holt and the Rams, who had serious injury problems and an overall lack of talent.

The Rams are in full rebuilding mode and looking for young players and draft picks, and this sort of trade seems like a reasonable thing for that club to go for this off-season.  We’ll continue to monitor this one and see if this little bit of smoke might ever turn to fire.
