Eagles Off-Season Begins
For folks who have become familiar with EaglesRumors, you know that the off-season is our busy period. We specialize in free agency, the draft, and training camp and look forward to another stretch of providing the latest news, gossip, and analysis. This year all off-season activity has the giant CBA cloud hanging over it, of course. But we tend to believe there’s no way, even as arrogant as they are, the NFL owners will force a lockout. So with that in mind, let’s get this off-season started with a little talk about what we’ll be covering.
- Potential new contracts for DeSean Jackson, Michael Vick, Stewart Bradley, and Quintin Mikell.
- The free agent pool, including newly available Nnamdi Asomugha.
- Injury updates to guys like Jamaal Jackson, Brandon Graham, Stewart Bradley, and Leonard Weaver.
- Draft coverage and player analysis.
- Trade rumors.
One note on Asomugha and the free agent period. There will be no signing of free agents until a new CBA is completed. The signing of veteran free agents during typical off-seasons starts in the beginning of March. Let’s hope a CBA is reached sooner than later. And one final note that should be included here. Several folks have emailed to ask what happened to the Rotoworld news widget that appeared on the sidebar. It appears Rotoworld has disabled these, and we’re working on getting it back in some form or another.
It’s Almost Here
July is glorious in so many ways. But it’s a safe bet that for most of the folks who visit this site right near the top of their list is “Eagles training camp.” The long wait is nearly over, we’ll get some legitimate Eagles’ action starting July 27th.
Wondering what’s been going on with the site? Well, life has intervened and made it really difficult to write, even briefly. But things have been sorted out, stability has returned, and we’re happy to say things will get a whole lot more lively around here starting right this moment.
We missed some action. Hitting the major points in reverse, there’s the Vick Mess, of course. And the not-going-to-end-anytime-soon McNabb drama. DeSean Jackson still doesn’t have a new contract that he clearly wants but — at least at this point — is not willing to hold out for. The Birds signed a whole bunch of their draft picks, but still don’t have Brandon Graham and Nate Allen signed and ready to go.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be setting the tone for our training camp discussions. We’ll figure out what the most important questions the Eagles need to find answers for in training camp and (of course) keep up with any new developments as we wait for the reporting dates.
As always, thanks for stopping by. It’s almost football time.
Eagles Rumors Draft Contest
Just a couple of days now until the NFL draft, and we’d like to have a bit of fun around here while in a small way saying “thanks” for the incredibly positive response this site has received in its first couple of months.

So, we’re going to run a pretty simple draft contest. In a comment on this post, you’ll need to leave the names of the first two draft picks the Eagles will acquire this weekend. Round and order of the picks are irrelevant. We just want the names of the first two guys.
And just in case we need a tiebreaker, please answer the following:
1) Will the first Eagles pick of the draft be an offensive or defensive player?
2) Will the last Eagles pick of the entire draft be an offensive or defensive player?
If we get a winner, that person will get the t-shirt you see here from the Eagles shop (yep, it’s one that’s one sale — do you actually think we make any money off of this little venture?).
So thanks again for stopping by, and have fun this weekend.
