Archive for March, 2010:
Kampman and the Eagles
Conflicting reports regarding the possible visit of Aaron Kampman to the Eagles. What appears to be absolutely true is the Birds are interested in him.
Peppers
Just a thought. The longer today goes on without a formal announcement of some kind from the Bears, the better the chances are that Peppers is available to others. It will indicated a sticking point.
Weaver and Eagles Are Set
The deal is a three-year deal worth over $11 million. Best contract ever for a fullback. And deserved.
Eagles the First Alternative for Peppers
Over the last few days we’ve heard that the Chicago Bears planned an all-out assault on the free agent market — they really were ready to open up the checkbook. Not having any high draft picks, this is all there was going to be of an off-season.
Those rumors appear to be accurate. Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor are visiting the Bears today. Both have been given “impressive” contract offers and are expected to sign with the team while they are on-site.
For what it’s worth, Peppers agent was quoted as saying the Eagles are the team Peppers would visit next if he leaves Chicago without a contract.
Don’t get your hopes up.
Gaither, Jordan, Weaver
UPDATE: Jason Avant and Nick Cole have also been tendered at second round levels.
News on the Eagles RFA tenders are starting to come in. Omar Gaither will receive a 5th round tender, Akeem Jordan a 2nd round.
Leonard Weaver could have a deal with the Eagles completed today.
McNabb
Donovan may very well be playing for someone else next year, but we implore you… do not get too worked up about anything you read on PFT about McNabb.
Over the years they have consistently printed any piece-of-garbage rumor about McNabb. In September of ‘06, they predicted McNabb would be traded by “the end of the month”.
Florio loves the push McNabb non-stories because of the Philly/East-Coast hype it generates, and pageviews are his business.
Today’s latest should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.
This Week
March 5th is the deadline to place a tender on restricted free agents, of which the Eagles have several. Here’s what we’ve been hearing:
Gone will be TE Alex Smith, CB Ellis Hobbs, and S Sean Jones. These guys are veterans and weren’t big factors for the Eagles this year.
It looks like Leonard Weaver may have a new contract in place before the deadline. Weaver, 28, was an important addition at fullback to the Eagles’ offense.
Guys you should expect to be tendered: G Nick Cole, WR Jason Avant, LB Omar Gaither, LB Chris Gocong, P Sav Rocca, and LB Akeem Jordan.
With every day that passes, it becomes less likely the Eagles will be able to trade Michael Vick before they are forced to pay him the $1.5 million roster bonus on March 5. By all accounts, the Birds’ front office seems resigned to this notion, but will still look to move him after Friday.
