ESPN Dismisses ESPN Report

This entry was posted on Mar 31 2010

Fun stuff from the world leader this morning.  Yesterday Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders had emerged as the front-runner for the services of Donovan McNabb in 2010.  He cited a “league source”.

Perhaps feeling burnt by a team he traditionally scoops for ESPN, Sal Paolantonio went digging and got an Eagles “senior team official” to tell him that there is “no so-called front runner.”

His anonymous source claims the Eagles are still engaged with multiple teams in regards to both McNabb and Kolb.  And nothing is imminent.

We’re really starting to enjoy this.

[ESPN] Source:  No front-runner in McNabb talks

  1. I love the internet because we can get such a vast amount of info in short amount of time but this crap is getting so annoying. I love the reporters always trying to one-up each other. I remember when the guy from Philly.com came out with the Rams “story” and everyone blasted him about it not being true and lies. Then the same jackasses turn around and say “well my unnamed but close to the team source says blah…” and we’re supposed to believe them. Sal Pal seems to be the biggest jackass of them all. He comes out with his “sources” that are apparently so much better than everyone elses and bashes other peoples’ reports.

On a different but still McNabb note. I’ve read a lot about experts saying the Eagles made a mistake by overvaluing McNabb early in this whole process and they could have moved him earlier if they would have lowered their price. I like McNabb and think he is still a very capable QB in this league and is a 2nd rounder really too much for him? I think a 1st rounder would be too much b/c of age and contract but a franchise QB for a 2nd rounder? Seems like good value to me. Did the Cutler and Roy Williams trades really kill the market for giant trades in the NFL? Cutler may bounce back but I am not sure he’ll ever be worth the price Chicago paid. The Williams trade is just hilarious especially b/c it happened to the ‘Boys. I just can’t imagine what the media backlash would have been like if the Eagles had traded McNabb in January for a 3rd round pick. Damned if you, damned if you don’t.

Good news is Phillies start on Monday so I can distract myself from all this noise.

  2. Oh, by the way- no way was the jackass remark in referrence to the people that run this website. This is the one decent site left to get decent info without a lot speculation and rumor pushed as real info.

  3. Badger — No worries, and thanks for the compliments. It would take a lot more than that to hurt our feelings :-)

Agree that it sure seems the Eagles may have made some mistakes during this whole process, including playing hard-to-get when the off-season began and possibly chasing away potential suitors for McNabb in the process (as they resolved their QB situation through other avenues).
