Monday Roundup

This entry was posted on Mar 08 2010

As expected, the Eagles are going to pay Mike Vick’s $1.5 million roster bonus, due on Wednesday.  This move was expected, though one wonders about the logic of paying $1.5 million for the opportunity to trade a player for a middle round draft pick.  Is that pick worth it?

Marlin Jackson, cornerback for the Colts, will be visiting the Eagles.  He’s coming off an ACL injury.

Jason Avant and the Eagles have agreed on a new contract.  Details to come.  It makes sense for both teams.  Avant has a niche role in the Eagles offense, and fits perfectly with this team.

  1. I just dont understand how the Eagles are going into 2010 with the same team, and expect to win. Your not going to get all the help we need out of the draft

  2. It’s March 8th not September 8th. Let’s wait until camp in August to really see what the team has done. The big name free agents are gone but its not like there were many to pick from and it doesn’t preclude the Birds from doing a trade or going after a RFA. Remember they traded for Peters last year. They also picked up Hobbs in the draft via trade. This draft looks like its gonna be very deep so teams might have more interest in getting picks this year and the Birds always have picks.

The Eagles didn’t get Peppers but guess what there are 30 other teams that didn’t get him either. Same can be said for Rolle and Dansby. Kampman was coming off injury (see Stacy Andrews) and Vanden Bosch is getting pretty old. That about sums up the great free agency market the Birds “missed out” on. A few teams may have changed since last year but there are a lot of teams that look exactly the same right now. And the teams that changed had a lot more problems than the Eagles did.

  3. Im not worry about the other 30 teams, you cant expect to draft all the needs and expect them to produce in their 1st year. Trades??? lets hope, but i highly doubt Andy going to trade for anyone that’s going to make a defenses this year. Hobbs didn’t do anything last year…and peters was up and down all year.

  4. And you expect that anyone they brought in during FA would have absolutely solved their problems? Bringing in Peppers, Rolle, or Kampman would have been just as big of a gamble as trading for Peters or Hobbs; until they play you just don’t know what you’re getting. I am just saying that its too early to say its over for the Eagles’ 2010 season.

  5. what are your takes about going after Darren Sharper?
