Monday McNabb Update

Donovan will try and play this week, but Kolb will be practicing with the “1’s” on Wednesday.

According to Coach Reid, the injury will not get worse by playing.  If true, this is about Donovan’s ability to play with the injury — the pain, discomfort, and possible loss of range of motion.

The fractured rib appears to be on his back (obviously), right side.  It is only a single rib.

UPDATE:  The very reliable Jay Glazer says the Eagles are already planning on sitting McNabb next Sunday.

On the other hand, via Brian Seltzer’s Twitter feed, Westbrook said “no question” McNabb will play week 2 — whatever that means.

UPDATE:  Shawn Andrews is not practicing today.  There is no word as to why (yet).

From Ted Daisher — the return duties have been finalized.  DeSean Jackson will remain as punt returner and Ellis Hobbs is handling kick return duties.

That should be a fantastic duo.

No rumors of a contract offer, but he was definitely here.

This may be just a gratuitous thing, or it could be the Eagles are legitimately concerned about Shawn Andrews and his potential backup (Justice).

Update:  Eagles Situation

Todd Herremans is out, obviously.  Nick Cole has earned the starting job over Max Jean-Gilles.

Joe Mays has a shoulder sprain and will not be active.  Andy Reid says Chris Gocong is the backup MIKE, with Moises Fokou the backup SAM.

First, the Panthers’ injury situation:

Jonathan Stewart, the Panthers’ second year back, has been battling injuries all training camp and is iffy for Week 1.

The Panthers lost their important starting defensive tackle, Maake Kemoeatu, for the season with a ruptured achilles.

Safety Charles Godfrey is being forced to play with a cast on his right hand, while linebackers Jon Beason and Thomas Davis both have MCL sprains and are not 100 percent.

Eagles Get Another Tight End

After getting let go by the Patriots over the weekend, former Buc Alex Smith is on the verge of signing with the Eagles according to Adam Schefter.

The National Football Post reports the Eagles tried to acquire David Thomas from the Patriots (presumably for AJ Feeley) — the Patriots ultimately traded him to the Saints.

No word on who will get moved off the Eagles 53-man to make room.

Update:  It’s Tony Curtis.

Poll Accuracy

Pretty nice job, dear readers, with regards to predicting who the Eagles would cut.  Three of the poll’s top four vote-getters were in fact let go by the team.  The only miss was Reggie Brown, and he may not end up being around for long.

The Birds gave Quentin Demps every opportunity to be the successor to Brian Dawkins.  He felt sure he had done enough.  The coaching staff felt differently, and now they will fill that role with a rookie who played cornerback in college.

You know where opponents will be looking to find an advantage now.

Rumors sprung up today that Winston Justice was seriously injured and his season might be over.

As it turns out, he did have an MRI.  But his injury is not considered serious.
