Prepping for Camp

Inqy writer Jeff McLane has a nice piece today about the upcoming battle for the starting free safety job. It includes some fun quotes from both Demps and Jones, it’s worth a read.
While that competition may be the one most up for grabs, it certainly isn’t the only one at camp. We are all excited to see Jeremy Maclin in action, who will be battling with Jason Avant, Hank Baskett, and Reggie Brown for the complimentary wide receiver jobs.
Victor Abiamiri and Juqua Parker will battle for the end position opposite Trent Cole. And it will still be interesting to see how Darren Howard looks as well.
Brent Celek has apparently put on some serious weight, and we’ll get to see him blocking and catching passes with the very impressive looking rookie from Florida, Cornelius Ingram.

i like the wr battle cuz i cant wait to see what maclin can do but the best position battle to me,would have to be hobbs vs brown.
is the weight celeks gained weight he needs to lose in camp or gained on purpose?
1. I’m not convinced there is a real battle for Sheldon’s spot. He was quite good last year, and we know the Eagles value depth at that position.
2. Celek claimed he was trying to get stronger and putting on muscle weight.
I read at some point this offseason that Celek was a gym rat at Novacare trying to bulk up to help his blocking.
It will be interesting to see what the depth chart in the defensive backfield ends up being. They have so many DBs. Granted most are just battling to stay on the team. I am personally pulling for Ike (I was at Wisco when he was playing) and would like to see him on the team come September.
I agree with ER that Sheldon’s job is his unless he makes some major screw ups. Hobbs does give some options with the return game which could help Jackson/Demps take on full time roles. And if Sheldon happens to pull a Lito they have someone to step in to replace him.
I’m very excited to see Abiamiri play this upcoming season. I think he’s going to do some good things! He showed them in his few spots last season.
And I think Maclin will easily beat out the rest of those guys. I still wanna see Reggie develop… I’ve given up hope, but I hope he proves me wrong. It’s one of the few times I want to be wrong, lol.
Also, I’m not sure if you frown upon this, I know some people don’t like “advertising” but if you want, check out 2minutestomidnightgreen.com. We write all sports, but mostly Eagles and Philly. The site creator just got credentialed to go to Eagles camp and will be up-close and personal. So, check it out, and sorry if this is frowned upon, just delete it! Thanks!
I think the safe bet is on Maclin sharing duties with Avant and Baskett, at least when the year starts. Hard to be optimistic for Reggie Brown, though.
As for your plug — only frowned upon if done obnoxiously. You weren’t.
