Maclin To Challenge Curtis?

This entry was posted on May 05 2009

Yesterday GCobb stated that Kevin Curtis’ surgery was a little more invasive than the receiver or the Eagles have made it seem.  Last weekend, in Curtis’ place, Jeremy Maclin spent some time at the “X” position with the first-teamers.

Curtis says he’s already starting to feel better, but is there good reason to speculate that Curtis may have a change in responsibility if Maclin picks up on the offense quickly?

The “X” receiver in the Birds offense is designed for the bigger, stronger receiver.  It is where Terrell Owens played in 2004.  It’s the guy who lines up closer to the line of scrimmage.

Curtis is listed at 6′0″ and 186 pounds.  Maclin is 6′1″ and 198.

The quickness and burst of both Curtis and DeSean Jackson makes them ideally suited for play in the “Z” or “Y” spots, off the line of scrimmage where they can get a clean release and get into space.

This is going to be one of the more exciting things to watch as spring turns to summer.

  1. Just want to add that Maclin didn’t get jammed much in college in that offense. He was often in the slot, in motion, of off the line of scrimmage in some way.

He’ll need to work his tail off.

  2. my draft mags say he wasnt challenged at the line much but he used his hands well to shed dbs and he has a excellent work ethic so workin his tail off shouldnt be a problem.
