First Day — Excited?
Even the most negative Eagles fan would have a hard time complaining about what happened in day 1 of the draft. Maclin is a burner with decent size, a guy who should play right away who is potentially a huge weapon for this offense. McCoy is a do-everything type running back who will fill the role of Correll Buckhalter and should eventually be a full-time replacement for Brian Westbrook. The conventional wisdom on both guys had them going much earlier than the Eagles time to pick.
Now, the Eagles don’t have Anquan Boldin or Braylon Edwards — but neither does anyone else. Perhaps the Browns and Cardinals stuck to their demands and no one was willing to bite. We’ll be ecstatic to see Steve Smith on top of the Giants WR depth chart.
Jeremy Maclin never even worked out or came to visit Philly. Reid never expected him to be there. McCoy did visit Philadelphia.

Completely satisfied with day one. You add in the Peters trade with the 28 and that is a great first day of the draft. People keep saying Maclin is too similar to Desean but he is a few inches taller and about 25 lbs heavier at this point. And he’s not even 21 yet. Once he gets a whole offseason in the weight room, he could be thicker and more powerful. We got two seemingly great players that can definately step up and make a difference this upcoming season but won’t be asked to be the face of the franchise quite yet which is a great position for a rookie. Day 2 just started!
All and all, I’d give Reid & Co. a B+ for day one. Maclin was HUGE green nation. He was considered a top 10 pick. Lesean mccoy is a solid player. We take a TE in round 3, GREAT draft.
im not all that excited bout shady.i have this draft mag that says hes a turnover waiting to happen,he carries the ball too loose.and it also says he has erratic mood shifts.hence the name shady.i like maclin though.
@ illeagle-
I heard that too about McCoy and his fumbles. Hopefully that’s something he can work on this summer and he can be coached up on. I believe the Viking’s AP had some fumbling problems out of college and his first year in the NFL. Of the skills a running back can be coached on and work on, ball position should be one of the easier ones.
I haven’t heard the thing about his mood. Hopefully that will change now that he’s on a strong team. No offense to Pitt, but they were very inconsistent the last two years. Anyone see their bowl game? A 3-0 loss to Oregon St. You go from beating West Virgina two years ago to opening up and losing to Bowling Green this year. That might make me erratic too!
As for Maclin-he seems like a true professional. Just saw his intro press conference on Eagles.com and he seems very mature for his age.
this draft really surprised me a lot. but don’t get me wrong i love it. Maclin falling into the eagles lap was amazing, thats great luck to get a player of that caliber at 19. mccoy is exciting, but i agree, he needs to learn to secure the ball better which i think he will with all the reps leading up to this season. he reminds me alot of westbrook. and then theres maybe my favorite pick, cornelius ingram who i think will be more of a factor than people think.
i say maclin will contribute this year, and given 2-3 years all three picks from the first 3 rounds will be serious play makers. and we get ellis hobbs to sure up the secondary a little bit. a good two days for the eagles.
i agree with you richp about ingram ive heard talk that he would have been second te taken if not for his acl tear.i was very suprised and excited to see all the tight ends slip as the eagles kept trading back.what really shocked me though was rashard jennings slip all the way to the seventh.i had him as a third.
