Cardinals Reduce Asking Price for Boldin?

This entry was posted on Apr 24 2009

Sal Paolantonio just reported on ESPN that the Cardinals are now willing to accept something less than a first round pick for Anquan Boldin — perhaps evidence that, while things have been quiet in Arizona, Rosenhaus and Boldin have made it clear they will make things difficult for the Cardinals in 2010 if they don’t acquiesce to Boldin’s trade demands.

Paolantonio goes on to say that the Giants and Eagles are front runners for the receiver.  It should be noted however, that ESPN is and continues to be very Northeast focused in virtually all professional sports (see Yankees/Red Sox/Mets coverage).  So the same issue is likely applying here, as most of the other talk out of Arizona revolves around a trio of AFC teams — the Jets, Ravens, and Titans.

Rumor Value:

  1. Ok well now the eagles better make some kind of tradefor this guy.A 1st and a 5th? Maybe a conditional also? We could always pick up a RB in the later rounds like Shonn Greene or Rashad Jennings.

  2. I think the 1st rounder is expendable now with Peters on board and the RB class being so deep. Jennings or McCoy could be had with the 2nd (I say that for McCoy for sure, not sure if a 2nd is a reach for Jennings). And there are several other options at RB especially since the Eagles are looking for someone to work alongside Westy for awhile and not replace him right away. I think the Eagles are in a great position going into tomorrow and seems plausible (not necessarily going to happen) they could trade for a vet. Should be a fun day!

  3. I have a question for you guys. I was reading yesterday about the Gonzo trade and how the Falcons made a trade offer for him the year before but Tony refused the trade. How does a trade really work? The team has a player’s rights and can trade them but can a player always refuse the proposed trade or is it dependent on the details of the offer? I was only wondering because I had ESPN on and they were talking about how Boldin would fit in the best in Philly and was wondering if he actually had any say in where he would end up.

  4. @ BadgerVMD

I believe it is totally up to the team. Player can only voice his opinion.
