Shawn Andrews for Sale?

This entry was posted on Apr 23 2009

Update II (3:13 PM ET) — Bowen talks to a “source close to the situation” who calls the report “baseless”.  Additionally, Bob Brookover reports the following re: Andrews’ contract.

“He just wants to play ball,” Andrews’ agent Rich Moran said in a text today. “No contract issue that I know of Bob.”

Update (2:07 PM ET) — Les Bowen confirms with his own (presumably different) source.

From PFT:

A league source tells us that the Eagles have contacted at least one team about moving the enigmatic Pro Bowl guard.

This only makes sense if the Eagles feel uncomfortable about the Big Kid’s health (physical or mental) or if he’s REALLY griping about his contract (which we doubt).

We’re skeptical of this one, but obviously we’ll need to keep an eye on this.

Rumor Value:

  1. Seems like an odd move. I would believe it more if his name came up in trade talks with other teams about a player the Eagles are after but its hard to believe the Eagles are actively seeking a trade partner for him. The only way this makes sense is what ER said about the Eagles not believing he’s mentally and physically able to play. But even that is hard to buy because you figure his value to any other team has to be minimal because his depression and injury aren’t secrets. On PFT they said his base for 2009 is under a million- that seems like a decent price to let him prove his health on the field. May turn out to be nothing but 4pm on Saturday can’t get here fast enough.

  2. They didn’t bring in his brother just to trade him. That was done for a reason. I think it’s another team inquiring about him. Not the other way around.

  3. @BadgerVMD — Indeed. And that concern for Andrews from the Eagles would have to be very severe.

Either that, or they’re using him to get something major in return.
