Leonard Weavor Minor Update
FB Leonard Weaver apparently called in to local radio (950 ESPN) last night. He didn’t say much of substance, but it is continued confirmation that the Eagles appear as involved with Weaver as any other team. You can listen to the interview at Bleeding Green Nation.
The Vikings are also believed to be in competition for Weaver’s services. He could still, of course, remain in Seattle.
Thanks to reader “Barry” for sending this one along.
Latest on Boldin/Eagles Rumors
When Profootballtalk.com posted yesterday the rumor from their anonymous source, Kent Somers (who really does great work at the Arizona Republic) immediately got in touch with Rod Graves (he’s about as close to a front office as any beat writer in the country, which is both good and bad).
Via text message, Graves said the Cardinals position regarding Boldin has not changed.
That’s beautiful. “The Cardinals position regarding Boldin has not changed.” In other words, he’s available.
Now, the interesting thing to discover here is who is involved in this bidding war. If you’ve got several teams bidding for his services the price could be quite high. Off the top of our heads we can think of several teams who would almost certainly be interested: Eagles, Giants, Jets, Chargers, Seahawks, Bucs, Vikings, and Jaguars. That’s who could be in the market.
If even half those teams go hard after Boldin then the Cardinals are likely to reap quite a harvest.
Eagles Confirm Interest in Weaver
A source within the Eagles organization has confirmed that the team has been talking to Weaver’s agent.
The source added that negotiations with Weaver’s agent, Harold Lewis, had not become serious. The agent said that was the case and that he was not in a rush to get Weaver signed because he knows his client is a sought-after player.
With many free agent fullbacks already signed, Weaver has certainly become the belle of the ball. That being said, his agent has already been reported to be overplaying his hand a bit. In the current climate, we don’t think teams will get into a bidding war over a fullback.

Rumors Still Swirling of Eagles Interest in Cornerbacks, Team Signs Safety
The Eagles continue to be mentioned as a team interested in virtually every defensive back available. You have to wonder the legitimacy of these stories. Some claim the Eagles are looking for veteran cornerback depth, but at the same time claim the team is charging after relatively young guys like Bryant McFadden and Jabari Greer.
An example of that comes today from Adam Caplan at Scout.com, who has an unnamed league source stating the Eagles were one of the teams interested in Jabari Greer before he signed with the Saints.
Meanwhile, the Eagles signed safety Rashad Baker to a one-year contract today. He’ll add some depth to the secondary and also contribute on special teams. The Eagles now have four NFL caliber safeties on the roster: Quintin Mikell, Quintin Demps, Sean Jones, and Baker. The team has quickly replaced the departed Dawkins and Consindine.
Rumor: Weaver in Negotiations with Eagles
This morning Les Bowen reports that fullback Leonard Weaver, who we’ve been tracking closely, is in talks with the Eagles front office on a contract. Specifically, his agent said:
“We’re still in talks with the Eagles, and with a few other teams,” Lewis said. “Hopefully, we’re going to get something done [in Philadelphia], but it would be premature to tell you that.”
Sounds like Weaver wants to come to Philadelphia. If this rumor is true, it could be an absolute answer to a short yardage game the Eagles struggled with early in 2008.

Eagles Getting Private Workout from RB Donald Brown
Connecticut running back Donald Brown appeared on Sirius NFL radio this evening and talked about his upcoming NFL career. Among many other things, he said he’ll be having a private workout for Philadelphia (as well as the Jets and Bengals).
Brown ran for a remarkable 2,083 yards in 2008 for the Huskies — with 18 touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes.
He has been highly productive in the Big East but lacks any sort of “elite” trait, making him a likely second round pick.

Eagles Rumors: Targeting Jason Peters?
John Clayton was on ESPN’s Mike & Mike show this morning and stated that he believes the Eagles have stockpiled draft picks and cash to attempt to acquire several players through trade.
He said he believes they are targeting the Bills LT Jason Peters, a talented but disgruntled player who wants a new contract.
With the departure of Tra Thomas all we can do is speculate at what the Eagles plan to do at Left Tackle. Currently the Eagles’ website depth chart puts Winston Justice (!!!) as the starter.
We have our doubts that Peters can be had from the Bills. Aside from acquiring TO, it is a team that has shed a lot of talent already this off-season, and will want to retain the valuable Peters for a run at the playoffs in 2009 to make the TO experiment pay off.
Nonetheless, we’ll keep our eyes on this one.
Thanks to reader JSimms for passing this along.

Fullback Rumors
Former Saints fullback Mike Karney will travel to St. Louis today to meet with the Rams.
Still nothing doing for Leonard Weaver.
No Rumors of Moving Boldin, But…

For those searching for something, anything to chew on regarding the ever-elusive “receiver traded to Eagles” rumors — some semi-interesting information out of Arizona over the weekend.
The Cardinals front office has informed Kent Somers that they intend to make contract extension offers to Adrian Wilson and Karlos Dansby a high priority. But not Boldin. Not sure how that’s going to go over with the big guy.
Boldin issued some bland comments over the weekend about letting his agent handle everything. Much more polite stuff from Boldin, but that might all change for the worse if the Cardinals do, in fact, give big money to Dansby and Wilson.

Eagles Now Have 4 Fifth Round Draft Picks
If the widely circulated rumor on the trade details is true — the Eagles sent Greg Lewis and a 2010 seventh round pick to the Patriots for a fifth round pick in 2009 — then the Eagles now have a rather incredible four fifth round draft picks.
And it looks like the Eagles have 12 total picks.
First round (2)
Second round (1)
Third round (1)
Fourth round (1)
Fifth round (4)
Sixth round (2)
Seventh round (1)
The Eagles are not receiving any compensatory picks for the 2009 draft like they have in years past. So barring more trades, this is what the Eagles draft position looks like.
