All Options on the Table for Boldin

This entry was posted on Mar 24 2009

Cardinals GM Rod Graves is turning his attention to players already on the Cardinals roster.  The biggest priorities for the Cardinals continue to be extensions for Karlos Dansby and Adrian Wilson, with the Anquan Boldin situation simmering in the background.  Graves, quoted by Kent Somers, says the Cardinals are open to everything with Boldin:

“We still recognize him (Boldin) as a core player and one that we would like to extend,” General Manager Rod Graves said, “but I think we have to remain open at all times to possibilities. To this point, we have not made any considerations for a trade, and we’re focused primarily on trying to make this relationship beneficial for our team.”

Rumor has it that Boldin doesn’t wish to surpass Larry Fitzgerald’s compensation (we would hope not). Drew Rosenhaus is his representation. Any new team would need to sign Boldin to the new contract, probably in the $8-$9 million a year range.

  1. I hope we trade for either Edwards or Boldin. Perferably edwards since he would be cheaper. We still need some more offensive weapons. Leonard Weaver was a start but we still need a RB and TE. If the trade stated in the other entry actually happened than we could use our 2 1st’s to draft Pettigrew and moreno. I would be go nuts!

  2. It’s kind of funny that this came out right at the time when it’s been rumored that the Eagles are interested in making a trade for Edwards. Sounds to me like they’ve been trying to punch the trade cost up and now potential suitors are looking elsewhere for deals. I’m not really even sure which player they should really go for at this point though. I like Boldin’s physicality, but his age and health raise questions. I like Edward’s youth and physicality, but his last season stats raise questions. Ideally, since both teams are looking for different things in a trade the Eagles should get both to eradicate any questions and make the passing game lethal.

  3. Good point Butch. I still think i’d go for edwards though he is 2 years younger and has more potential. He still has plenty of time to correct some of his mistakes in the 08 season.
