Leonard Weaver and the Eagles

This particular rumor doesn’t directly relate to the Eagles, but that doesn’t mean it’s uninteresting. When we read that Leonard Weaver had cancelled his trip to New Orleans we immediately were intrigued.
What makes a guy cancel a free agent visit only a few hours before it was to begin?
As it turns out, New Orleans informed Weaver’s agent that he would not be the starting fullback if he signed with the team (the Saints already have Mike Karney). That was enough to get Weaver to say “thanks, but no thanks.”
More than anything this is an indication of the interest level out there for Weaver. If the first team to contact his agent and schedule a visit wasn’t even interested in giving him a starting gig, it can’t be a good sign.
Nevertheless, the guy has received a ringing endorsement from his former coach, and he is a big guy who can catch the football out of the backfield and do something after the catch.
So, while we’ve yet to hear any rumor regarding the Eagles interest in Weaver, we’re keeping on this one.

If Weaver isn’t going to get a lot of interest then the Birds should look at him. I watched a lot of Seahawks games last year and he is really useful. He’s really fast for a fullback and when he catches the ball with a head of steam he really can wreak havoc. I say go for it.
